The Forgottonia Project was created by educator Joe Brewer and his students at Cuba High School, located in rural west central Illinois. Initiated as a public history project to align with recent statewide efforts to establish more inclusive and inquiry-based social studies classrooms, it recognizes that rural youth are among the largest demographic leaving the state. The project focuses on the forgotten story to connect students to the unique history and culture of the region. High school students are provided an opportunity to follow their curiosity about local history and explore contemporary issues facing their community.
